Postgraduate studentships

The Pirbright Institute has formed partnerships with a number of different universities and companies in the UK to offer a selection of exciting studentships studying viral infections of animals.

These partnerships offer students an exceptional opportunity to obtain a broad view of infectious disease research in a rich, stimulating and unique research environment. Students will have the opportunity to work with the different partners involved in their project, thereby giving them access to novel ways of tackling the problems of livestock diseases through interdisciplinary, cross-institutional approaches. This will be coupled to core skills training at the student’s host institutions, providing flexible training options and experiences that will support a wide range of career choices.

PhD Studentship:  Oxford Interdisciplinary Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership

Candidates are invited to apply for a studentship funded by the Oxford Interdisciplinary Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) programme, which will involve research under the joint supervision of academics at the Pirbright Institute and the University of Oxford. This studentship may be of particular interest to students with interests in areas such as virology, immunology, pathogen evolution, diagnostics, vaccines and animal health and welfare.  Candidates should apply directly to the Oxford Interdisciplinary Bioscience DTP and state in their application that they wish to be considered for a Pirbright studentship. Your personal statement should include an explanation of your interest in working with research groups at the Pirbright Institute. Where relevant, please indicate any interest in collaborating with researchers in other DTP partner organisations, such as Diamond Light Source. The student who is awarded this studentship will have the opportunity to participate fully in the 4-year training programme provided by the DTP and will undertake exploratory projects in two research groups before committing to a specific 3-year research project, which will be undertaken under the primary supervision of a researcher at The Pirbright Institute, with co-supervision from a researcher at the University of Oxford.
