The Insect Transgenesis STP provides expertise in vector genetic engineering, supporting research aimed at uncovering the molecular mechanisms underpinning vector-virus interactions.
Advancing Genetic Tools for Vector Research
We specialise in the development of genetically modified insects to support cutting‑edge research in vector–virus interactions and disease transmission. Our team combines extensive technical expertise with state‑of‑the‑art molecular tools and equipment to deliver validated transgenic and gene‑edited insect lines.
What We Offer
Transgenic Lines
We design and build transformation constructs and generate transgenic insects using established transformation systems. Our capabilities include:
- Integration of transgenes and fluorescent reporter constructs
- Tissue‑specific and inducible expression systems
Gene-edited Lines
Using CRISPR/Cas‑based genome engineering tools, we produce precise knockout and knock‑in lines to support functional genomics and vector–virus interaction studies.
Molecular Validation
All engineered lines undergo molecular and functional verification, including:
- Genotyping and sequencing
- Gene expression analyses
- Phenotypic assessment to ensure viability and stability
Species Currently Supported
We currently work with the following vector species:
- Aedes aegypti
- Culex quinquefasciatus
- Culicoides sonorensis
Custom Projects
We actively collaborate on expanding genetic tools across vector species. Our team can develop custom protocols for non‑standard organisms and is happy to discuss feasibility studies and method development projects.
